{"id":9842,"date":"2022-01-26T11:08:45","date_gmt":"2022-01-26T16:08:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.une-sen.org\/press\/?p=9842"},"modified":"2022-01-26T11:09:45","modified_gmt":"2022-01-26T16:09:45","slug":"sv-bargaining-team-aims-to-close-critical-wage-gaps-at-the-table","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unesen.ca\/press\/?p=9842","title":{"rendered":"SV bargaining: Team aims to close critical wage gaps at the table"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"400\" src=\"http:\/\/www.une-sen.org\/press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/2021-bargaining-scrape-960x488_sv_1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9843\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.unesen.ca\/press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/2021-bargaining-scrape-960x488_sv_1.png 960w, https:\/\/www.unesen.ca\/press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/2021-bargaining-scrape-960x488_sv_1-300x125.png 300w, https:\/\/www.unesen.ca\/press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/2021-bargaining-scrape-960x488_sv_1-768x320.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>January 25, 2022<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Operational Services (SV)&nbsp;bargaining team&nbsp;put forward&nbsp;fair and reasonable wage proposals in talks&nbsp;with the employer January 18-20,&nbsp;and PSAC expects Treasury Board to provide their response to our wage package in March.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many SV members are experiencing a widening wage gap compared to their private-sector counterparts&nbsp;that&nbsp;is affecting the morale of members and risks&nbsp;impacting the services they deliver to Canadians.\u202fAnd with the cost of living and inflation increasing, it is critical that\u202fwages are addressed&nbsp;this round of bargaining.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Proud\u202ftradesworkers\u202fand public safety workers, SV members are the backbone of\u202four\u202fpublic\u202fservice,\u202fand they are proud to serve Canadians.&nbsp;Throughout the pandemic, SV members\u202fdidn\u2019t\u202fhave\u202fthe\u202foption\u202fof working from home.\u202fThey showed up\u202fevery\u202fday\u202fto work,&nbsp;and without them, core services\u202fwe rely on\u202fwould&nbsp;have been\u202fimpacted.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fair wages are&nbsp;crucial to hire and keep highly trained public service workers.\u202fOtherwise,\u202fwe risk losing the talent Canada needs to deliver the programs and services Canadians depend on.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The SV group&nbsp;presented key improvements, including:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Close wage&nbsp;gaps:&nbsp;<\/strong>More than ever, SV members\u202fneed fair wages.&nbsp;To eliminate persisting wage gaps, PSAC&nbsp;has&nbsp;proposed&nbsp;a range of\u202freasonable\u202fmarket adjustments based on&nbsp;a&nbsp;new&nbsp;labour&nbsp;market&nbsp;compensation comparability survey commissioned by PSAC in 2021.&nbsp;The&nbsp;survey\u2019s&nbsp;results confirm a significant gap between compensation for SV positions and comparable jobs outside the federal public service.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li><strong>Existing allowances<\/strong><strong>:&nbsp;<\/strong>Some allowances are currently not available to all members who should be receiving it.
