{"id":9328,"date":"2021-05-31T12:39:19","date_gmt":"2021-05-31T17:39:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.une-sen.org\/press\/?p=9328"},"modified":"2021-05-31T12:39:21","modified_gmt":"2021-05-31T17:39:21","slug":"699-leave-hearing-dates-set-for-policy-grievances","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unesen.ca\/press\/?p=9328","title":{"rendered":"699 leave: Hearing dates set for policy grievances"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"400\" src=\"http:\/\/www.une-sen.org\/press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/699-leave.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9329\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.unesen.ca\/press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/699-leave.jpeg 960w, https:\/\/www.unesen.ca\/press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/699-leave-300x125.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.unesen.ca\/press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/699-leave-768x320.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>May 28, 2021<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PSAC will&nbsp;defend the use of 699 leave for federal public service workers&nbsp;during the pandemic at&nbsp;adjudication&nbsp;hearings&nbsp;with&nbsp;the Federal Public Service Labour Relations Board August 30 to&nbsp;September&nbsp;3,&nbsp;2021.&nbsp;This&nbsp;will be&nbsp;a virtual public hearing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PSAC filed&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/psacunion.ca\/changes-699-leave-psac-take-further-legal-action\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">several policy grievances<\/a>&nbsp;with Treasury Board, CFIA and other agencies&nbsp;for restricting the use of 699 leave for members&nbsp;who were unable to work&nbsp;because of&nbsp;child care,&nbsp;elder care, disability&nbsp;or other&nbsp;issues brought on by COVID-19.&nbsp;We&nbsp;will&nbsp;also be challenging Treasury Board\u2019s&nbsp;policy&nbsp;that forces&nbsp;members to exhaust&nbsp;all&nbsp;other available leave like vacation, sick, or family leave before they&nbsp;can&nbsp;access 699 Leave&nbsp;for COVID-19-related reasons.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;restrictions&nbsp;disproportionately impact marginalized groups&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/psacunion.ca\/psac-calls-government-prevent-covid-19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">who have&nbsp;been the hardest hit by the pandemic<\/a>, including women,&nbsp;Indigenous people,&nbsp;racialized employees, workers with disabilities, high-risk workers&nbsp;and workers with family obligations.&nbsp;This violates both members\u2019 collective agreements and the Canadian Human Rights Act.
