After months of\u00a0pressure\u00a0from\u00a0PSAC\u00a0and its members,\u00a0the federal government\u00a0has agreed to\u00a0return to the\u00a0bargaining\u00a0table.\u00a0Negotiations\u00a0for\u00a070,000\u00a0federal public service workers in the\u00a0PA group<\/a>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0PSAC\u2019s largest bargaining\u00a0unit\u00a0\u2013\u00a0will resume with Treasury Board\u00a0June\u00a023 to July 3.\u00a0It will include\u00a0Treasury Board common issues<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Phoenix damages<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Bargaining will\u00a0also\u00a0resume for nearly 30,000 PSAC-UTE members at\u00a0Canada Revenue Agency<\/a>\u00a0the week of July 6.<\/p>\n

\u201cElsewhere in Canada, the need to provide stability and fair compensation to public service workers during this pandemic was recognized\u00a0months ago\u00a0\u2013\u00a0provinces, municipalities and large employers across the country have been negotiating\u00a0and settling contracts,\u201d\u00a0said PSAC National President Chris\u00a0Aylward.\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s high time the federal government did the same for their employees.\u201d<\/p>\n

Throughout the pandemic, PSAC members have been on the front lines battling the virus and delivering emergency financial support to millions of Canadians. They continue to provide critical services despite not having a new contract or wage increases in up to four years.<\/p>\n

They also continue to endure Phoenix pay issues and have yet to be fairly compensated for their financial hardships.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe government has clearly\u00a0listened to the\u00a0more than 15,000 PSAC members\u00a0who wrote to\u00a0them in recent weeks\u00a0urging\u00a0Treasury Board\u00a0to get back to the table,\u201d said\u00a0Aylward. \u201cIt shouldn\u2019t take that kind of pressure to get back to\u00a0negotiations, but I\u2019m grateful to our members for\u00a0supporting our bargaining teams in such large numbers.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd it\u2019s a\u00a0welcome change to\u00a0see\u00a0the government\u00a0\u2013\u00a0during National Public Service Week\u00a0no less\u00a0\u2013\u00a0move from kind words about our members, to action,\u201d added\u00a0Aylward. \u201cNow they have to show up with\u00a0a\u00a0mandate\u00a0to reach a fair settlement\u00a0without any more delays.\u201d<\/p>\n
