\u201cThe teleworking arrangements seem far short of our nominal expectations during this COVID 19 health crises. Treasury Board and Separate Employers need to do better.\u201d<\/p>\n
The government has\u00a0announced<\/a>\u00a0that federal public service workers will be allowed to work from home where possible during the COVID-19 virus outbreak. However, departments and managers have been given individual discretion on how and when to grant permission to telework. This creates a patchwork approach that leaves our members and the public at risk.<\/p>\n We\u2019ve\u00a0been very clear<\/a>: anyone who doesn\u2019t need to be at their workplace should be given the ability to work from home.<\/p>\n We\u2019re calling on the government to issue a comprehensive telework policy for all federal public service workers \u2013 unless their jobs are deemed essential \u2013 to help prevent the spread of the virus.<\/p>\n To further protect the safety of all workers, especially frontline government workers and the people they serve, we\u2019re calling on the government to:<\/p>\n PSAC members have the legal right to a safe and healthy workplace, and we\u2019ll work closely with employers to find solutions wherever possible.<\/p>\n Find out more about the\u00a0COVID-19 pandemic<\/a>, or your\u00a0rights at work<\/a>\u00a0as a PSAC member.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" UNE National President Kevin King: \u201cThe teleworking arrangements seem far short of our nominal expectations during this COVID 19 health crises.
