{"id":4359,"date":"2014-10-11T10:13:29","date_gmt":"2014-10-11T15:13:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.une-sen.org\/press\/?p=4359"},"modified":"2014-10-11T10:13:29","modified_gmt":"2014-10-11T15:13:29","slug":"ssos-get-their-day-in-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.unesen.ca\/press\/?p=4359","title":{"rendered":"SSOs get their day in court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.une-sen.org\/press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/ssocourt.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"ssocourt\" src=\"http:\/\/www.une-sen.org\/press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/ssocourt.png\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.une-sen.org\/press\/?p=4350\">As we reported earlier this week<\/a>, the federal court heard our arguments concerning the ability to deal with seniority-based proposals in arbitration.\u00a0 The bargaining team is seeking these provisions for both field interviewers \u2013 those who conduct surveys door-to-door \u2013 and regional office employees, those who conduct surveys by phone.<\/p>\n<p>Mary Anne Walker, regional vice-president for Ontario and a member of the bargaining team, was able to attend the October 8 hearing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe question before the court is: did the arbitrator make a mistake to rule that the two clauses couldn\u2019t be arbitrated,\u201d explained Walker.<\/p>\n<p>Walker was quick to commend Andrew Raven, who represented the SSOs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe did an excellent job,\u201d said Walker. \u201cWe felt very good afterwards; we felt our presentation was very good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The case before the court will undoubtedly set a precedent. But all these judicial hoops we\u2019ve had to jump through to get there have delayed justice for our SSO members; people who are eagerly waiting to be treated fairly in the workplace.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can\u2019t thank our members enough for being patient and waiting.
